Pen Names
Have you ever wondered what artists out there are not really going by their real name? I know when you think pen name you right away think of Benjamin Franklin (Silence Dogood) or Mark Twain (actually Samuel Clemens). These seem like myths really...or so I thought-- until my surface teacher confessed he had a couple pen names to keep different collectors happy. !!!!?!!????! Weird right?
Under pen names he is able to experiment more with a variety of styles and get away with it. If he started shifting his work under his regular identity, buyers might get uneasy--so the secret identities give you freedom.
It is funny to think about though. The significance we attach to names. Identities. Are artists better off having secret identities, and different name for the person the maybe turn into under creative electricity? Puts a crazy paranoia out there too---what artists can we really believe to be who they say they are?
